Some items in the world are tainted by the so-called Tep's Curse.
A player's items can also gain this curse after the player's death. Tep's Curse inverts the item stats so it makes it weaker instead of stronger. You can prevent your items from getting cursed by using Holy Charms, which can be obtained from the Boutique.
